5 step process

Whats Involved In Lawn Renovation?

Our lawn renovation is a 5-step process that maximises lasting results in all the lawns we complete work on. Including scarification, aerating, overseeding, top dressing, and finally a feed, our process has given outstanding results, as seen in this lawn in Dorchester.

When should it be done?

We normally start in April and September where conditions are perfect for grass to germinate.

Why should it be done?

Thicker lawn, better drainage, prevents bare patches and a stronger root system.

Scarification

Removal of thatch

Scarifying your lawn might sound a bit harsh, but it is one of the best things you can do to keep it healthy. Over time, even the best kept lawns build up a layer of thatch—dead grass, moss, and debris—that sits on the surface and blocks water, air, and nutrients from reaching the soil and roots. This can be due to poor weather conditions or poor levels of maintenance. On every renovation we do a minimum of 2 passes with the scarifier to ensure we remove all these damaging factors to allow the lawn to breathe again.

The benefits allow the other stages of the renovation to be even more effective. Grass roots can now grow deeper and stronger and drainage improves, lowering the chances of moss to build up. It also creates the perfect conditions for new grass seed to take hold, so your lawn ends up looking thicker and greener. In the long run, a scarified lawn is much more wear resistant, better able to handle harsh weather, and maintenance becomes easier.

Aeration

Improval Of Drainage

Aerations are a great way to improve drainage and to allow nutrients to access the roots of the grass plant. Our fracture tine aeration reduces compaction without leaving any mess.

This allows stronger root growth, and less waterlogging. This is especially useful if your lawn sits on heavy or clay soil or near watercourses that can cause the soil to become overly saturated.

Overseeding

Thicker, greener grass

Overseeding is the process of laying grass seed across the entire the lawn so that when germination occurs there is maximal coverage of thick green grass. The benefit of doing this after scarifying is that there is no competition from weeds or moss that would stunt the growth of the grass meaning a stronger yield and less waste.

We use a completely organic top dressing to create a nutrient filled surface over the lawn for the grass seed to germinate in that will slowly seep into the soil improving its health and condition. During this we can also level out bumps and dips so that the lawn is even and easier to maintain.

We finish by spreading an organic granulated fertiliser evenly across the lawn. This slowly releases nutrients into the lawn allowing growth to be steady and healthy reducing stress on exsisting grass and emerging grass.
